How to launch a creative social enterprise

  • Shoreditch House 1 Ebor Street E1 6AW UK (map)

Social enterprise as a business model is an increasingly popular option for start-ups in the UK and for good reason. Not to be confused with charities, social enterprises – such as Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurants, The Big Issue and Divine Chocolate – encourage businesses to do social good and have corporate social responsibility at their core. Gives the flexibility and freedom of being able to trade commercially whilst still fulfilling social aims. In this practical and insightful morning talk, Claire Martin, co-founder of The Mill Co. Project who provide accessible studio space to the creative sector, will talk about this alternative model, the pros and cons, different legal structures, and how social enterprise businesses can make a real difference to their communities yet still appeal to investors and other funders.
