How to launch an independent magazine (and make sure it’s not a flop)

  • Shoreditch House 1 Ebor Street London, E1 6AW UK (map)

As we rapidly reach digital saturation point, there’s an exciting shift back towards good old-fashioned print. Thanks to a resurgence of independent publications, there’s never been a better time to launch your own magazine, whether to promote your work or just for pleasure. But how on earth do you do it and, more importantly, make it a success?

Not content with editing the art section of Time Out, Eddy Frankel decided to create OOF, a brilliant and beautiful magazine about the relationship between his two passions – art and football.

During this lunchtime talk, he’ll explain how he came up with the idea and made it into a reality. He’ll delve into the quest for funding (and the reason why you really need it), how he commissions, edits, designs, prints, distributes and promotes each issue, and all the mistakes he’s made along the way.
